St. Albert Sturgeon River Hike

Thirteen people came out to St. Albert for the river walk along the Sturgeon River. It’s a popular hike for the midpoint of spring. For one thing, the path is wide, paved, and clear, with almost no slopes—it’s smooth and easy going all the way.

The second thing is that you are likely to see birds, whether they are passing through or planning to stay…

…like this Canada goose.

Lunch was outside at the Good Earth Coffeehouse.

Thanks to Terry for scouting and leading the hike, and thanks to the City of St. Albert for the upkeep of the riverside paths. You can find more photos on Flickr.

Happy Valley Winter Hike

Thirteen people came out to Camrose area for a winter hike in Happy Valley. Happy Valley is a privately-owned property on the other side of the train trestle from Stoney Creek.

The owner generously maintains the wide trail for anyone to visit.

There’s adventure at every turn.

Part of the game is spotting the wildlife…

…including this sabre tooth tiger and the dinosaur above.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and a new experience for almost everyone. The total hike distance was 11 km return.

Thanks to everyone who came out. You can see all the photos on Flickr.
