Hike: Stoney Creek

August 27, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm MDT

This week’s hike, approximately 10 km long, is along Stoney Creek just south of Camrose and north of where the creek empties into the Battle River. We will hike in two groups: one following along a creek trail that is quite level, and the other group seeing some vistas as well as closeups of the creek by climbing up from and back into the valley. (There are ski hills in this area.)

The hike will leave from the Stone Creek Centre in Camrose (see here) at 10 a.m. Participants may proceed there directly on their own. However, hikers living in or near Edmonton may prefer the usual meetup location of the northwest corner of the Real Canadian Superstore parking lot at 51 Ave. NW and Calgary Trail, meeting at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 departure. This allows carpooling for the two hours (round trip) of travel time.

Items to bring include a good hat to protect from the sun, water and lunch, insect repellent just in case, and perhaps a camera or binoculars. Expect to enjoy nature, good exercise and good company.

If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit this webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 56–57, or contact the Hike Leader, Irene M., at 780-679-2218.

  1. There seems to be a conflict between the hyperlink above and what the Trail Guide is indicate. May I please ask you where the trail head is again? Thank you.
