Landowner Rights & Trail User Responsibilities

The Waskahegan Trail is a unique resource that exists only because of the generosity of landowners. Before you set foot on the trail:

  1. Know the landowner rights and the trail user responsibilities.
  2. Check the trail conditions

Boardwalk Building at Wanison

Well, yes building was the intention, over 3 boggy areas of the Wanison Lake trail going to Blackfoot Recreation Area. First of course we needed to cart in more building materials. First we had issues with our brush cutter that pulls the heaviest cart with a cable breaking. It took awhile to get a fix that would hold. On our second trip we were determined to get everything left to the second bog and well …….what happened here?A cart that is meant to carry a moose, could not meet our demands!

So we will be back to build another day!

Eagles, Pelicans, and Puffballs at Saunders Lake

Twelve hikers came out for another amazing hike at Saunders lake.
There were a number of pelicans on the lake, as well as lots of ducks and a few hawks.

Then we saw a bald eagle, coming…going…and just sitting on a tree overlooking the lake. (We had seen two eagles there when we scouted on Thursday.) Dustin took this amazing photograph.

Scott found a massive puffball mushroom. We got all but three left feet in this photo.

We saw a few hawks as well, and of course, lots of ducks.
Lunch was in the shade on the road allowance at A33. There was a breeze for most of the hike while the sky remained fairly hazy. Temperature-wise it was quite pleasant.
