Devon’s Prospectors Point Park

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 status and will gradually restart our hikes, with some obvious protocol changes listed at the bottom.

While not part of the Waskahegan Trail, we will take the Devonian Trail from Twp 512 by Hwy 60 to Prospectors Point Park on the river. The pictures from March 31st, 2019.

Funded in partnership with the River Valley Alliance, the County’s newest trail is almost complete. The 6km trail spans from Prospectors’ Point to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden (formerly the Devonian Botanical Garden).

We will start at the non-boardwalk section at Twp 512 (Banksiana Road) off Hwy 60 (Devonian Way) at 9:45 and go east by acreages and through the woods turning south to the river. Please park close to the ‘super mailboxes’ on Twp 512 to avoid traffic coming off Hwy 60. We travel high in the hills along the river to Prospectors Point Day Use Area at Hwy 60 where we have lunch before returning.

Initial protocol changes due to COVID-19:

• using public trails, in/near the city (not the WTA Trail as virtually all of the trail is on private land and we do not want to impact the landowners);
  
• meeting at the trailhead, no car pooling (so the start time reflects driving to the trailhead from the city rather than a 9am meeting point at Century Park or Belvedere Park & Ride);
  
• the hike leader will fill out all forms (e.g., signup sheet) & please use the online waver (to minimize what we all touch);
  
• Government of Alberta – Guidance on outdoor activities;
  
• recommending wearing a face mask (Government of Alberta – Guidance for wearing non-medical face masks);
  
• only attend if you are feeling well & comfortable being with the group.
