Waskahegan Staging towards Meadow Shelter – Canceled
March 29, 2020 @ 9:45 am - 3:00 pm MDT
In accordance with our province’s guidelines and directives on social distancing, we won’t be leading any Sunday guided hikes for now. But we are still working on our summer hike schedule. We’re also thinking about what we can do to keep the Waskahegan Trail available and desirable if this isolation continues past April—because by that time, spending time in nature will be more welcome than ever.
A great hike for the winter, most trails will be carpeted with snow and the wide paths allow the hikers to socialize. There may even be the occasional hawk and some chickadees. The hike will leave from the parking lot at the Waskahegan Staging Area at about 10:45 a.m. The ‘bus stop’ style shelter at Arrowhead Lake will be the most likely lunch stop (if the weather & trail hold out then maybe Meadow Shelter and if tough slogging we’ll shorten it up a bit). The pictures from January 20th, 2019.
In Edmonton we will meet at the Belvedere ‘Park and Ride’ (free lot) & carpool (leaving at 10 a.m.). Participants may proceed there directly on their own, but should check the website prior to departure in case of a change (e.g., weather forecast, trail conditions).
If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 84-85, or contact the Hike Leader John S..
