Canceled – Fort Ethier / Bigstone Creek
August 25, 2019 @ 8:45 am - 3:00 pm MDT
Canceled (2019-08-25 07:55am MT) – There has been too much rain and now the slopes are too slick to walk
This week’s hike, 11.4 km in total and hopefully, the ‘blue route’ that Brad J. reestablished a couple of years ago is still OK.
This is along a very special part of the Waskahegan Trail. Starting with a living relic from Canadian history (Fort Ethier from the time of the 1885 Riel Rebellion) and a close-up look at an alpaca farm, followed by shaded cliff-top views of Bigstone Creek and sun-filled stretches close to the water, what’s not to like? Expect to stop at a special spot for lunch and a rest.
Happily hikers along this special section of the Waskahegan Trail….
Yes, those are alpaca….
In Edmonton we will meet at the Century Park ‘Park & Ride’ Section I (it’s still free on weekends – ‘Free Parking’ section I, near the 109th Street Entrance/Exit) and carpool leaving at 9 a.m. Participants may proceed there directly on their own, but should check the website prior to departure in case of a change.
If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 40-41, or contact the Hike Leader, John S..
