Coal Lake A43 to A45, via Point Cooperation (1-way)
July 2, 2023 @ 9:45 am – 3:00 pm MDT
The hike picks up the next section of the trail along Coal Lake that we covered on two hikes in June.
The Point is named for Project Cooperation, in which six 15- and 16-year olds, funded by the Province and by the Waskahegan Trail Association, cleared this section as part of their summer work in 1975.
We will meet at “A43” (Township Road 480 / Range Road 240) at 9:45 a.m., with the hike leaving at 10:00. We’ll then follow the route along Coal Lake to Kjorlein Corner (A45), stopping for lunch at Point Cooperation, passing Mumey Ravine along the way (a reroute due to a landslide near Mumey Ravine is why it has been a few years for this hike). Pictures from June 9th, 2019 (the last time we did it as a 1-way).
There is limited parking at “A43” so rather than 2 hikes from opposite ends with lunch at Point Cooperation we’ll do a straight through hike. On hike day we will coordinate the vehicles to minimize cars left at ‘A43’ & get everyone home. To help coordinate getting the vehicles & drivers between the hike starting point (‘A43’) & ending point (‘A45’), where possible –
- try to minimize the # of vehicles through car pooling
- the ‘passengers’ will start the hike from A43, the ‘drivers’ will move the vehicles to A45 & start the hike from there
- we will all meet at the mid-way point (“Point Cooperation”) for lunch
- try to have more than one driver per vehicle
- after lunch the ‘passengers’ will continue on to A45 & the ‘drivers’ will go to A43, with the alternate drivers taking the vehicles (& additional passengers) from A45 to A43 to pickup the drivers
- Note: if a vehicle only has one person capable of driving then after lunch they will need to return to A45 with the ‘passengers’
BTW – in the fall we will also be hiking the trail at Kjorlein Corner (A45) to Point Cooperation & back.
