South Miquelon (A84 towards ‘D’)

August 1 @ 9:45 am 3:00 pm MDT

The Miquelon Lake is another one of those interesting trails in the Miquelon/Ministik area that had once all been underwater, resulting in pockets of trees on some higher ground (had been islands) and alley ways (where the water was). “Ministik” means island in Nehiyawewin (Cree).

We tend to follow the ‘blue’ route around the edge of Miquelon Lake and into the park where we hooked up with the park trails before looping back via the ‘yellow’ route. Don’t forget to look for the old rusted out car near the first field.

We’ll meet at the trail head beside “A84” where Township Road 491A (Rabbit Run Road) meets Range Road 203, at 9:45 a.m.. The hike will leave from ‘A84’ at 10:00. The pictures from September 29th, 2019.

If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 66-67, or contact the Hike Leader John S..

Meet at Trailhead (no car pooling)

With the current Government of Alberta action plans to beat COVID-19, Albertans are encouraged to assess and manage their personal risk. It is reasonable for people to continue using precautions that will serve their needs.

Waskahegan Trail Association protocol changes for our events:

  • We meet at the event location (e.g., trailhead for hikes). There is no organized car pooling, however, participants can make their own car pooling arrangements
  • Don’t attend if you are awaiting the results of COVID-19 testing or if you have any signs or symptoms of covid or anything unusual
  • Only attend if you are feeling well and are comfortable being with the group.
  • Individual event coordinators (e.g., hike leaders) and event locations (e.g., buildings within the parks) may have additional requirements that MUST be followed at all times.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 status and may has to make further adjustments.

  1. Hi,
I am interested in taking in some of the guided hikes. However, how do I find information about difficulty of the hike terrain. I have a knee that acts up so need to be aware of limitations.
Where do I find information about this for each of the hikes?
    Thank you

    • Usually your best bet is to call or email the hike leader (you’ll see the contact info on the posting). The hike leader will have scouted the trail and can answer your questions about the terrain. Another thing you can do is subscribe to the weekly emails. We talk about the hike coming up and will mention if it is more difficult than most or easier than most.
