East Battle River (Duhamel) to Rest & Be Thankful, weather permitting

October 24 @ 9:45 am 3:00 pm MDT

In most years this is our first out of town hike of the season & a glorious way to start spring … while it had been scheduled for the first Sunday in May for 2020 & 2021, when COVID-19 hit us both were canceled. We have it on the schedule for the last Sunday in April 2022 but weather permitting, we might as well get in another out of town hike this season.

The hike follows the Battle River east towards Stoney Creek and Camrose. It starts by following the river, low in the valley across open grassland, but eventually winds its way up out of the valley, stepping over a field of crocuses, then into woods and gulleys, and ending at the top of “Rest & Be Thankful” hill. There we stop to eat our lunches, thankful for the spectacular views. The pictures from October 25th, 2020

We’ll meet at the trail head Duhamel (Ross Flats) Campground (at Range Road 212C just off Highway 21 & the campground is no longer in operation). The hike will leave from ‘A62’ at 10:00.

If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes web page for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 52-53 or contact the Hike Leader, Elizabeth B., at 780-672-2873.

Meet at Trailhead (no car pooling)

With the current Government of Alberta action plans to beat COVID-19, Albertans are encouraged to assess and manage their personal risk. It is reasonable for people to continue using precautions that will serve their needs.

Waskahegan Trail Association protocol changes for our events:

  • We meet at the event location (e.g., trailhead for hikes). There is no organized car pooling, however, participants can make their own car pooling arrangements
  • Don’t attend if you are awaiting the results of COVID-19 testing or if you have any signs or symptoms of covid or anything unusual
  • Only attend if you are feeling well and are comfortable being with the group.
  • Individual event coordinators (e.g., hike leaders) and event locations (e.g., buildings within the parks) may have additional requirements that MUST be followed at all times.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 status and may has to make further adjustments.
