Trail Clearing: Ministik to past Horseshoe Lake

August 29 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm MDT

Maintenance always depends on the weather; so check the website before coming out.

We will be mowing, using chain saws, chucking debris, clipping & signing going in 5km and returning, so we will need to spell off each other and work in turns.

Ellen will be coordinating the crew.

Call or email Karen 780-642-6372 to say you are coming. If you decide last minute just show up at McDonald’s.

Please bring your lunch, water, wear older clothes and be prepared for hiking. Workers are insured by WCB. Transportation is provided by Waskahegan. We also treat you to a coffee and a muffin.

  1. Plants seen on August28/18 reconnaissance of Ministik trail from A87 north to Knull Lake
Coltsfoot, agrimony, rose, sasparilla, meadow rue, dogbane, goldenrod, Asters, fireweed, thistles, giant hyssop, nettles,, other mints, mayflower, birch, spruce, beaked nut hazel, honeysuckle, highbush cranberry, snowberry, water hemlock, yarrow, yellow rattle in grass patches, fairy bell, false soloman’s seal,, lily of the valley, nodding biggars tick, various mosses, and a few others not remembered.
Plants have few left with vivid flowers. So you will learn other characteristics(leaves, seeds, burs, fruits) to know these plants in the future. Some places have been staked for rapid finding on Sept2. I will remove stakes at that time.

    • Clearing crew may or may not leave said stakes as they may be difficult to get a hold of in the field and you have not described the stakes for me to know what to tell them.
