Hike: Snow Valley to John Janzen Nature Centre (Edmonton)
October 16, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm MDT
Due to the wintry conditions, we moved this hike into Edmonton, from Snow Valley parking lot to John Janzen Nature Centre. Lunch will be either at John Janzen or Alfred Savage Centre. Bring your bagged lunch and water.
You may also bring birdseed. You’ll find some bird feeders along the trail.
We will be leaving from our regular meeting point at Superstore Calgary Trail at 9 am. But if you wish, you could meet us at the Snow Valley parking lot around 9:15.
For the record, below is the hike that we had hoped to have. Let’s do this early next summer:
This week’s outing explores a section of Waskahegan Trail that lies south of Gwynne, with marvelous views of the Pipestone Creek and Coal Lake, a hike of about 6 km round trip. Afterwards, those who are interested will also hike the nearby Chickadee Trail along the Pipestone Creek, about 3 km round trip. Local naturalists have built bird houses along this trail, so you are sure to see lots of Chickadees.
If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit this webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, consult the Waskahegan Trail Guide Book (pages 46–47 and 115) or contact the Hike Leader, Oscar Z., at 780-435-1197.
