Devon Voyager Park / Lion’s Campground

November 15, 2020 @ 9:45 am - 3:00 pm MST

This week’s outing makes good use of the Devon trails along the south side of the North Saskatchewan River. The trails climb up and down, in and out of the river valley, making for a more challenging hike than we might be used to on other city trails. The hike will be about 10.5 km long, leaving from the parking lot at Voyager Park (near the bottom of the hill on Saskatchewan Avenue) at about 10:00 a.m. Pictures from October 10th, 2016 (with fresh snow).

There are now 3 parking lots at the bottom of the hill & the washrooms between the 2nd & 3rd parking lots are open and the middle one (with the big blue ‘Parking’ sign) is for regular vehicles (so where we should park).

If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit this webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, consult the Waskahegan Trail Guide Book (pages 118 & 119). For further information specific to this hike contact the Hike Leader, JoAnne B. & Lee S. via e-mail (joanneandlee@yahoo.com) or phone (780-487-0645).

Initial protocol changes due to COVID-19:

  • using public trails, in/near the city (not the WTA Trail as virtually all of the trail is on private land and we do not want to impact the landowners);
  • meeting at the trailhead, no car pooling (so the start time reflects driving to the trailhead from the city rather than a 9am meeting point at Century Park or Belvedere Park & Ride);
  • the hike leader will fill out all forms (e.g., signup sheet) & please use the online waver (to minimize what we all touch);
  • Government of Alberta – Guidance on outdoor activities;
  • recommending wearing a face mask (Government of Alberta – Guidance for wearing non-medical face masks);
  • only attend if you are feeling well & comfortable being with the group.
