Guided Hikes

Guided hikes are for everyone

Guided hikes are free and open to everyone who is capable of walking about 10 km over a span of 3 to 4 hours, including lunch and frequent breaks along the way.

No pre-registration is required. The hike leader will get you signed in when you arrive at the meeting place. If you want to know more about the trail or if you would like us to know that you are coming, feel free to phone the hike leader. Or send us a message with the Contact Form.

Consult the event calendar to see the details of all the scheduled upcoming hikes.

What to bring

Bring or wear your hiking boots or shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather, and bring water and lunch.

Some hikers like to use a hiking pole on the hills.

Waivers

Anyone who participates in a guided hike must sign the waiver. Members who hike regularly can sign the waiver at the time of joining or renewing membership.

If you are not a member, please consider printing the non-member waiver now and bring it with you to the hike.

Departure Time

Standard departure time from the meeting place is either 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m. as indicated. We recommend you get to the meeting place 15 minutes before departure to allow time for signing in.

Carpooling

For hikes in the country, we typically carpool.

Etiquette for the carpool passenger:

  • Reimburse the driver $7 for gas and maintenance costs at the end of the trip.
  • Help keep the driver’s car clean by bringing alternate footwear and a bag for your muddy boots for the ride home.

If you are the driver, please note that Carpool.ca recommends that you protect yourself with liability insurance of at least $2,000,000 and that you notify your insurance provider of your intent to carry passengers.

Extreme Weather Policy

Although we like to hike rain or shine, there are two weather conditions we look out for:

  • The daytime high is forecasted to be colder than -20 C
  • There will be extreme winds or lightning

In these cases it is highly likely the hike will be cancelled. Check the home page for announcements or call the hike leader or the hike coordinator for confirmation.
