The Terwillegar Park Footbridge & West End Trails are completed, so this will be a new hike for the winter of 2017 that connects Terwillegar Park to Fort Edmonton - trail info for West End Trail. We typically have this hike in the spring, as the crocuses are starting to bloom and a chance to get out on a country trail after a long Alberta winter. Source of the Blackmud has grand vistas of Mud Lake, Coal Lake and the Gwynne valley. We go into the woods and come upon an unusual "pet cemetery." Afterwards, we descend into the valley towards the north end of Coal Lake to the Great Divide where the water south enters Coal Lake, the Battle River and the North Saskatchewan at North Battleford. On Sunday's Mushroom March, Leonard Peleshok, a friend of the Malcolms and an expert on mushrooms, has offered (to be confirmed). This hike, about 10 km round trip, spends half its time in kettle moraine woods and the other half alongside one of the three Miquelon Lakes (this one being known as Miquelon Lake #2!).
