Source of the Blackmud
May 14 @ 8:45 am - 3:00 pm MDT
Source of the Blackmud has grand vistas of Mud Lake, Coal Lake and the Gwynne valley. We go into the woods and come upon an unusual “pet cemetery.” Afterwards, we descend into the valley towards the north end of Coal Lake to the Great Divide where the water south enters Coal Lake, the Battle River and the North Saskatchewan at North Battleford. Water north enters Blackmud creek into Edmonton and the North Saskatchewan. We lunch on a hill overlooking Coal Lake. The pictures from Pictures from October 12th, 2014.
In Edmonton we will meet at the Century Park ‘Park & Ride’ (free lot) & carpool (leaving at 9 a.m.). Participants may proceed there directly on their own, but should check the website prior to departure in case of a change (e.g., weather forecast, trail conditions).
If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 28-29, or contact the Hike Leader, JoAnne B & Lee S..
