East Battle River (Duhamel) to Rest & Be Thankful (see Hike Details)
May 13 @ 8:45 am - 3:00 pm MDT
This hike is a repeat of our April 23rd hike to help to kickoff our Meetup Group and is traditionally our first out of town hike of the season. While the crocuses may be over, the hike itself follows the Battle River east towards Stoney Creek and Camrose. It starts by following the river, low in the valley across open grassland, but eventually winds its way up out of the valley, ending up at the top of “Rest & Be Thankful” hill. There we stop to eat our lunches, thankful for the spectacular views. After returning to the trailhead, we’ll make a quick visit to the nearby old Duhamel Church, built in 1883 and restored with Waskahegans working on mending the roof. It has an interesting graveyard. See end notes in the guide book (Page 53). The pictures from May 3rd, 2015
The hike will leave from the Duhamel Campground (at Range Road 212C just off Highway 21) at about 10 a.m. In Edmonton we will meet at the Century Park ‘Park & Ride’ (free lot) & carpool (leaving at 9 a.m.). Participants may proceed there directly on their own, but should check the website prior to departure in case of a change (e.g., no overflow needed for our Meetup Group, weather forecast, trail conditions).
If you are new to WTA hikes, then you should visit the Guided Hikes webpage for essential information. For further information specific to this hike, refer to The Waskahegan Trail Guide Book, pages 52-53, or contact the Hike Leader , David M..
